Cramer: Buehrle Almost Perfect Again

Yesterday, Mark Buehrle took the mound for the first time since his historic perfect game against Tampa Bay. He was going up against a much less prolific offensive team in Minnesota, so why couldn't he get another perfect game?

Buehrle came out rolling again. Throwing strike after strike, he failed to walk anyone, give up a hit, or have an error behind him through 5 innings. Then came the 6th inning. Chicago had just taken a 1-0 lead off a Jermaine Dye solo shot, and the Twins' crowd was much more interested in seeing their team be no-hit, no-walk, no-error'ed. 1 out, 2 outs... 1 walk, 1 hit, 2 hits. Just like that not only had Buehrle ended his consecutive batters retired streak at 45 (the longest such streak of all time) but he had given up the lead and now had himself in a position to get a no decision or even lose the game.

As baseball goes, once the first hit was given up by Mark, the flood gates opened and the Twins poured on 4 more runs in the next inning, taking a 5-1 lead. The Sox had a valiant comeback attempt in the 9th only to come up short. Just days afer Mark Buehrle pitched a perfect game, and DeWayne Wise made a catch for the ages; Buehrle picked up the L, and Wise made the final out on a fly ball to right field.
