Klein: Stick Away From These Guys On Draft Day

Quarterback
QB Matt Cassel
I just can't seem to convince myself that Cassel will continue his production in Kansas City. Please do NOT let his season in New England last year fool you! Belichick and McDaniels put Cassel in a position with all of the tools around him so he could excel, build confidence, and manage games for them. Brady or Cassel, it is the same offense. I believe they are both extremely talented quarterbacks, but it is all about systems in New England. Offensive geniouses come through that franchise too, not just defenses (Weis and McDaniels). Cassel goes to a Kansas City team with no Moss, no Welker, no Faulk, and no Watson. He goes to Bowe, Engram, and...um...that is it. Unless head coach Todd Haley continues his offensive success that he began in Arizona do not expect quick success in Arrowhead.

Running Back
RB Kevin Smith
Alright, everyone needs to get off this guys d*ck because he isn't that good. In '08 he rushed for 976 yards and 8 TDs, decent numbers. If the offense were to improve this off-season, then I wouldn't be hating on him...but it didn't. They added NOTHING to their league's worst offensive line. Tell me how you expect to have a rookie quarterback dropping back behind the worst offensive line in the NFL. How could any of these problems bode well for second-year running back Kevin Smith? They don't! Keep your mits off this back before you regret your pick early in the season. You will not want to see Smith jammed at the line each play with a Lion's team that will NOT be excelling early in the season with Stafford under center. This will all just lead to pain. Also, they added Scott Linehan to coach the offense and he really, really likes to throw. Need I say more? Well, yeah, I actually do. This is not the kind of guy you want to throw a 3rd round pick in the garbage on.

RB Jamal Lewis
If you want a running back that will get you 750 yards and 4 TDs then you should draft Lewis! But, I won't. This guy is an absolute bum at this point in his career. He is going to be playing in a conservative Mangina offense that calls for small, quick running backs to do well. Lewis is the complete opposite of that. He is 245-pounds and he is almost 30-years-old, not someone I want to use my 8th round pick on in my draft (a pick that will be EXTREMELY valuable this year). One of the most common mistakes from fantasy rookies is that they aim low with reserve picks, especially for a RB3. All you can hope for from Lewis is that he will halt his rapid decline and get a mediocre season from him. A player like Lewis will help you go from 11th place to 10th place. You pretty much get my point.

Wide Receiver
WR Steve Breaston
Some of you fantasy dum-dum's may be a little too excited about this ex-Wolverine. This guy already has his name engraved on a plaque at the National 3rd Wide Reciever Hall of Fame, and that is where he will stay. Breaston was just a player in a system, Haley's system. Now with that system out of the NFC West there will be a decline in the looks Breaston gets at his normal slot position. Breaston's real success came with Boldin riding the pine due to injury and that is something you cannot bank on. With a healthy Cardinal team in the '08 playoffs, including Boldin, Breaston's 37 YPG is more indicative of his role in their offense.
