Cramer: Powe to Cavs
Just one day after Big Baby of the Celtics re-signed with Boston for 2 years, $6 million, Leon Powe signed a two year contract with the Cavs. "A source told ESPN.com that Powe will sign for the league minimum for players with three years of service -- $855,189. Cleveland will hold a team option for a second season at $915,852."
Powe is a low risk, high reward signing for Cleveland. They get him for super cheap, and don't even have to keep him next year if he doesn't pan out this season. He has had constant knee problems ever since his days at Cal, and missed a lot of last season, and the playoffs by reinjuring his ACL. However, Powe is expected to be back at the all-star break. If he comes back and is effective, then the Cavs got a player worth as much, if not more, than Big Baby for less than 1/3 the price. Great job by Danny Ferry taking a small risk that could make a huge difference for the Cavs come playoff time. Remember how good he was against the Lakers in the finals when the Celtics beat them? If not, let me refresh your memory:
