Klein: Holliday Sent to Cards in Exchange for Prospects

It has just been reported from a personal source that Athletics OF Matt Holliday has been sent to the St. Louis Cardinals in return for top prospect Brett Wallace, right-hander Clayton Mortensen, and outfielder Shane Peterson. This seems like a bit too much for the Cardinals to give up for a struggling Holliday (.286-11 HRs). The youngster Wallace, who was sent to the A's, has shown signs of greatness in the minors by playing in 27 games between AA-Quad Cities and AAA-Springfield and going 38-for-100 (.380) with 8 homers and 29 RBIs. Holliday is expected to start in left field for the Cardinals. If he can get back to his old ways, expect the Cards to win the Central and meet up with the Dodgers in the NLCS.
WINNER: Oakland Athletics

  1. I would have to agree yes short term this is probably a plus putting another solid bat into the pujols owned linup. However in the long run maybe the A's have the advantage. One thing though a competing team cannot buy is experiance and Holliday without a question brings that experiance with him. The only way to really asses who got the better deal is look at Hollidays numbers come OCTOBER

  2. That is a perfect point and I agree. Matt Holliday only has 4 home runs the past 2 months and we all know that he is a guy that can hit 30+ HRs a year. In the long run the A's got the better deal.
