Cramer: World Series Prediction?

Disclaimer: No actual baseball evidence will be used in the following prediction... but please enjoy my welcome back post nonetheless.

I'll be truthful with all of you readers out there... I haven't been watching baseball very much over the past couple of weeks. It's been boring at best with only one race in the AL Central worth keeping an eye on (and let's be honest, who actually thinks the AL Central winner will win more than one game against the Yankees anyway). Plus, with the start of the NCAA football season and the NFL season, I've found myself watching games between middle of the pack ACC and Big East foes rather than a "compelling" game in baseball.

That being said, I promised you all my World Series prediction long ago, and it's time for me to deliver on that. As I'm sure you remember, I have the Yankees playing the Cardinals for the Commissioner's Trophy which I will stand by despite St. Louis' apparent mediocre play of late (not based on me watching, but on their 5-5 record in their last 10 while the Phils and Dodgers have gone 8-2).

As a New Yorker and a Yankees fan, I have to say I have a hard time saying outright that they're going to pull it off this year. They haven't won since 2000 (Indians and Cubs fans won't sympathize with me here), which for the pin stripes is a long time. Is it finally time for them to win their 27 title to add to all the "Got Ring" tee-shirts that have been worn over and over again over the past 9 years, or was a curse bestowed upon them when they lost to the Sox after leading 3-0 in 2004?

Unfortunately... I am inclined to believe that it is the latter. The Cardinals have the best player in baseball, and one of the best staffs in baseball. The Yankees have a whole crowd of great players and pitchers, but they also have the pressure of New York riding on them. Players like Tex, Swisher, Sabathia, Burnett, etc... have never felt true New York postseason pressure (just ask A-Rod guys). I think they could have a cake walk in the first round, and if they meet the Red Sox in the second it won't be any different from their regular season matchups (because they already are played with plenty of intensity)... but the World Series is a whole different venue.

The Yanks are great this year, there is no question about it... but I think the Phillies or Cardinals will beat them in the World Series (notice I stuck the Phillies in there... I won't go back on my word officially though). Am I just saying this so to not contribute to any curse that might be on the Yankees if I say they'll win? Yes. Do I really believe they'll lose? Maybe. Am I predicting that they will lose on Zeus of Sport? Absolutely.

World Series Prediction: St. Louis Cardinals
Philadelphia Phillies

  1. There are two things that will keep the Yankees from winning it all: Their suspect starting pitching and the fact that A-Rod has never produced in October. It should be fun to watch, especially for all my fellow Yankee haters out there.

  2. Dear anonymous,
you are wrong and I actually think your stupid... their "suspect" stating pitching has actually been very good this year not to mention the yankees as of late have been out scoring other teams with a great margin. A-rod yes has never really really produced but he gets his share of hits. To go add, he is a presence in an already dirty line-up. Whether he produces or not, it will be irrelevant.

Next, the St. Louis birds suck, the twins were hot but they suck, the dodgers will play the phillzzz but will not be able to handle their pitching. I think that will be a great matchup however. Angels are ok but red sox and yankees cast too big of a shadow

THE REAL PREDICTION MR. ZUES IS AS FOLLOWS

NLCS: Dodgers vs Philllyyyy ALCS Yankees vs Red Sox

    World Series: Philly vs Yankees

Champs: Yankees.. the phillz will not win two year in a row be realistic.

ps i still do not like whoever posted above me

  3. Mr. Zeus I believe would be the correct spelling, and time will tell. The Dodgers aren't making me look too bright right now, especially with a 9th inning run. The Yankees were impressive, but as you said... the Twins suck.

  5. yeah, i stuck the phillies in there to be safe

let's not get ahead of ourselves though on the yanks, they easily could have lost that game, and probably should have.

Angels are a threat now, obviously.

Dodgers... we'll see. Phillies are the favorites in the NL now, the AL is unclear.
