Klein: 2009 MLB All-Star Game Recap

Once again the American League wins the All-Star game and extends their streak of 13 straight wins by beating the National League by a score of 4-3.

If you are a fan of an AL team you should probably thank MVP of the game, Carl Crawford, for giving your team home field advantage if they are to make it to the Fall Classic. In the 8th inning he preserved a 3-3 tie by making a web-gem in left field and robbing NL right fielder Brad Hawpe.

To give you an idea of how the two "aces" did for the NL and AL I will give you their stats:
AL Roy Halladay: 2.0 IP, 4 hits, 3 ER, 0 K, 13.50 ERA
NL Tim Lincecum:2.0 IP, 2 hits, 2 R, 1 ER, 4.50 ERA

Yeaaaaa so I guess it was kind of good that in the All-Star game starting pitchers only pitch the first two innings...or else things could have gotten ugly.

After Doc's 2-inning stint last night, they did not allow more than 1 hit the rest of the game. Pretty impressive if you ask me! That's what I call "all-star" pitching. For the NL, only 2 more runs were given up, one of them by San Diego closer, Heath Bell, who received the L last night.

Hometown hero, Albert Pujols, started off the game with an error and finished 0-3 at the plate. In the 5th inning he made a pair of diving stops at first base to keep the game knotted up at 3 a piece.

In the 9th inning Yankees' closer, Mariano Rivera, appropriately sat the NL down in "1-2-3" fashion to end this years All-Star game.

MY ALL-STAR WEEK AWARDS
MVP of the Week: Prince Fielder- this guy won the Home Run Derby the first night and then last night he came out and pinch-hit for Tim Lincecum and knocked in Yadier Molina with a scorching ground-rule-double to left field.

MVP of the game: AL relief pitching- the stats say it all ladies and gents and here they are: 7 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K, 0.00 ERA. I think you understand why they did all the dirty work.

LVP (least) of the game: Doc Halladay: the talk of the town this past week has been trade rumors concerning the LVP of last nights game. Apparently, he was thinking too much about a trade last night and forgot he had to play baseball. Doc gave up 3 ER in 2.0 IP and was 0-1 from the plate. Okay, I know he isn't supposed to be able to hit but there is a reason why I threw that statistic in there. When packing his equipment to go from Toronto to St. Louis, Halladay forgot a helmet. Is this a joke? How do you forget to bring a helmet when you know for a FACT that you will be pitching and you will be in an NL park. Last night Halladay strolled up to the plate in Evan Longoria's Tampa Bay Rays helmet with the sticker peeled off the front and a big, fat, obvious #3 on the back. He looked dumb and that is the main reason why he gets my LVP award.

  1. I don't agree I think that forgetting your helmet when you are a pitcher for the American League is not that big a deal. I also think you are leaping to a lot of conclusions just from this one incident. Also you are showing no respect for someone who has been the best pitcher consistently in the AL for the past 5 years. Not to mention he was doing it for a team that has been among the worst in the MLB in the past 5 years. How do u expect to keep this blog up with an amateur moves like that? I'm sorry but you are dead wrong. I also see that you are a Jets fan. So I guess you are used to being wrong if thats the team you have chosen to follow.

  2. Haha this is good. I said that Halladay was the Least Valuable Player of the ALL-STAR GAME. I never spoke about what he has done in the regular season because if I were to hand out the AL Cy Young award right now, he would have it up in Toronto. He got this award because he was the LEAST valuble player in this 2-day span. If it makes you happy I will give him the MOST valuable player award for the other 363 days of the year. Thanks for your opinion.
