I'm here to tell you which rookies I think will have significant impacts on their teams in this upcoming NBA season, and which will not quite live up to their pre-draft hype. There were too many players drafted to cover them all at one time; so, for now I am going to give you 3 booms in the first round that I believe will turn into solid NBA players (if not studs). Tomorrow, I will give you 3 busts in the first round, and a player in the second round I think will turn into a Manu, Mo Williams, Gilbert Arenas, or Carlos Boozer (aka a 2nd round player who becomes a good to great player).
Booms
1. Tyreke Evans- Evans is the only player in the top 10 that I am going to talk about here. It's hard to say that a player that goes #4 in the draft will be an unexpected boom, but ever since Memphis' loss to Missouri in the NCAA tournament, I have been raving about Evans pro-potential. In my mind, he was the second best player in the draft (after Griffin), and will show it in his rookie year. He may not be ready to be a passing point guard in the NBA, but the guy can score at will. He single handedly carried Memphis to a 2 seed. Expect Evans to average from 15-20 points a game, and shoot a ridiculous amount of free throws.
2. Earl Clark- This draft is not going to be full of superstar players, but a player like Earl Clark, who fell to #14 and the Suns, will have an impact on this league for years to come. He is 6'10" and has great versatility. He played for a great Louisville team, so he knows how to win, and I view him as a poor man's Rashard Lewis. If he pans out, he will be a steal at #14, if he doesn't then it's hard to say it was a bad pick because most of the players chosen after him will never see more than 15 minutes a game. It's even better for Clark that the Suns are looking to rebuild, so expect Clark to play plenty of minutes, and have plenty of opportunities to prove himself.
3. Toney Douglas- Douglas is not only an offensive talent, but defensive player of the year in the ACC. At the 29th pick, the Knicks got an absolute steal here. It's a win-win... they either get the player who averaged 21 pts a game his senior year while leading a very mediocre Florida State team to a 5 seed in the NCAA tournament, or they get a useless player who will not affect their summer of 2010 plans of signing a superstar. I think they'll get someone in between, which is always great at the 29th pick.

I'm not buying Toney Douglas. Didn't Florida State lose to Northwestern this year? I am curious who this second round player is that you will talk about tomorrow. Keep up the good work.
