Apollo of the Week: Carlos Cabrera!

It's that time of the week. We received all of your articles and thank you very much for submitting them, but this article is not only timely, but wonderfully written. Ladies and gentlemen, Carlos:

I’m sure you all have heard it, especially you Bulls fans like myself: Carlos Boozer is coming to Chicago. Now, the rumor has cooled off a bit, but is still worthy to discuss, as every Bulls fan knows any signing or trade that occurs before the oh so wonderful, promising summer of 2010 will undoubtedly affect the Bulls’ long term future—meaning chances at Chicago’s own Dwayne Wade, Christopher Bosh, or dare I say LeBron? Before I start salivating at the thought of the potential hometown backcourt of D-Wade and D-Rose (that sounds kind of nice doesn’t it?), let’s talk Boozer.

To the average Chicago fan, the thought of Boozer is riveting. Since that man Jordan left, Chicago has struggled finding a consistent low-post scorer. There was Elton Brand, but that disappeared quickly into Eddy Curry and Tyson Chandler. We all know how that worked out—a bad mix of arrhythmia and butterfingers. If only the Bulls had a consistent 20 and 10 guy like they did in the Jordan era…wait, what? You can’t mean Luke Longley do you or Bill Wellington? But that’s not the point because I wouldn’t mind having a Tim Duncan or Kevin Garnett. One thing I WOULD mind is having a Carlos Boozer. Here are the top 5 reasons of why I don’t like Carlos Boozer (besides the fact that he stole my name): 1) He plays 0 defense. With the departure of BG7 and the drafting of Taj Gibson, GM Gar Forman is trying to establish the Bulls as a defensive-minded squad. 2) He is a con. Remember when he told the Cavs he’d for sure sign with them and then bolted for Utah? 3) He is injury prone. In ’05-’06 he only played 33 games and last season only 37. 4) He’s nearing 30 and most likely on the downside of his career. 5) He went to Duke. Think about it, Duke players never bring their collegiate success to the NBA. Hey Bulls fans, remember Jay Williams?

If those 5 reasons aren’t enough to convince you that Boozer isn’t coming to the Second City, here’s some more logic. To start, the rumor probably developed from within the Blazers organization. The rumored trade was Boozer to Chicago, Hinrich to Portland, and Tyrus Thomas to Utah. Sounds like an early Christmas present for Portland fans. Tell me how a three-way deal can happen without the Blazers surrendering any of their players. Portland was upset because Hedo decided to go north of the border, so they made their fans and Brandon Roy believe they’d finally get their guy who’s been on their wish list for years: the hard-nosed, defensive, team oriented Captain Kirk.

Hold up Oregon, you are telling me the Bulls already let Gordon walk, will give you Hinrich, and part ways with Tyrus Thomas just for one year guaranteed of Carlos Boozer and potentially ruining their chances of landing D-Wade or Bosh in 2010. Not gonna’ happen. Unless something changes, like the inclusion of Jerryd Bayless in the deal, this rumor is just that, a rumor. So cheer or boo(zer), but Bulls fans, Carlos is nowhere near coming to the Chi. And I’m fine with that.
